We had a good turnout to remember the loss of HeeJun just over a year ago (link to last year’s memorial ride). A lot of us coordinated through the Charlotte Sport Bikes Forum and thanks to Shawn for organizing the ride and stops. Here was most of the group and three photographers (Shawn, Jason, and Jessie) stood on the other side to take this photo.
We met up at the usual spot for gas and the meet and greet.

Shawn does the ride your own ride speech without the ride your own ride part. Jason’s very square mirror is strategically placed.
We got caught in the rain before our next stop.
Todd and Chad
I took one for the team as I donned my bulky trash bag like rain gear and single handedly stopped the rain for the entire group. In case you didn’t know, the only way to stop rain is to pack your rain gear and if you really want to stop the rain, put your rain suit on AFTER you’ve gotten wet.
Joey and Pat joined the ride.
We waited a while here to let the rain “skirt” around us according to Shawn and the Doppler Gang.
Kevin loves his iphone!
We pulled over at the accident site at Mile Marker 22 on Highway 181
The chase vehicles were described as girly by some.
Kerry came all the way from Tennessee.
The group came out on two wheels to honor the memory of a great rider.
The crosses were still in great shape.
Some colorful flowers were planted just in front.
Right behind the scene are some large rocks that are popular with climbers.
Bye bye Jamie!
The next stop was for some tasty eats at the Italian place.
The sun was shining so we enjoyed sitting outside.
Stephen showed off his glove stained hands.
They brought out some warm bread and the good stuff according to Perry, Hotel Bar Butter.
The last group stop was at Jonas Ridge.
The gals show off their bikes.
I’m enjoying my new folding shift lever but haven’t tested it out (yet!).
After Jason popped a tube in his tire, we pulled over at a gas station to figure out what to do. We wanted a pic with just Ben and the gals he led on the non old 18 route. Some people mix us up and the best way to tell us apart is that we wear gear to match the other one’s bike.
Doug shows off his new VFR paint scheme for key delivery service today.
It was a nice ride for a sad occasion and I think Kevin said it best:
Enjoyed meeting everybody new and old so to speak, it says a lot for the guy that in his memory we all had something else to do today but we chose to ride together, let us keep that spirit in mind.

Looks like I missed a great outing! But it would’ve been a pretty long haul from Texas. Good photos, good people, good bikes!
You nailed it with your description of how to stop rain! Gotta get wet, then put on your gear. Works every time!
