It seems on September 11 of each year, people finally slow down their busy lives and take the time to reflect on what happened when this tragedy struck our nation. I see countless Facebook posts about where people were and who they were with. I too wrote the very same post in 2009. The next year, I used the day to reflect on how much my life had changed since the actual September 11, 2001. Then a weird thing happened last year – I didn’t write anything on this special day. The last entry before September 11 was one about a short vacation that I had taken. I guess last year I was so consumed with my life at the moment that I didn’t take time to reflect.
This year, I want to reflect on how much my life has changed in just the past three years since I started this website back in August 2008. That last September 11 (or technically September 10th) entry I wrote was about a vacation that Jason and I had taken up to VIR and stayed at the lovely Berryhill Estates. That would end up being the last September 11 that we spent together. The silver lining on what initially appeared to be a very dark cloud is that my friends have rallied together to show me support and love like I could never imagine. Now things are so much better and I realize that I have some of the BEST FRIENDS around! So the namesake of this blog is no longer around and I struggled with keeping this site going. Those amazing friends of mine (especially the other half of the C-team) not-so-gently reminded me that this is a site about MY life and that sometimes the people in it will change. It still blows my mind that people are so interested in my adventures but all I can say is THANK YOU and I am SO grateful to my readers because it’s YOU that keeps this going.
So in the past three years, life has been a wild ride of many ups and downs but let’s just say for now, I’m seeing many more ups in the future and I hope you continue to join me in these adventures. With that, please take some time to reflect on whatever you want today. To get you started in your deep thoughts, I’ll leave you with a typical classic C story:
This morning, I treated myself to a lazy start to the day. Instead of jumping out of bed and getting started on my to-do list, I stayed in my warm and cozy bed and enjoyed finishing a book that I’ve been reading for a few weeks. The end was near and I could see the pages starting to thin as I approached the end. I get to the climax where someone jumps out of the dark and tries to murder the main character. Now, I’m SO ready to read the end and then I notice that the page end to the next page was very abrupt. The sentence didn’t flow quite right. What was up?
Well, in a classic C story, somehow my book was missing a big chunk of pages – specifically pages 477 through 492 which coincidentally is where the book is just starting to unravel the mystery that the first 476 pages spent building. UGH. Seriously?! I can’t imagine anyone else manages to buy a book that is missing the exact unfolding of the end of the book. Only me. So I get to add one more task to today’s to-do list: find a bookstore where I can read pages 477 – 492 of this book discreetly : )
Seriously readers, use this day to take the time to slow down and reflect on something – anything – that is important to you. Sometimes we plan for an ending that never happens. Live life to the fullest today because none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow – like I’m not guaranteed an ending to my book!
