Got truck?
Dave and Russell scope the scene then start brainstorming.
Dave grabs a generator and we’re off to join a caravan of other utility trucks.
We arrive at the cell tower with the Alternative Power.
Russell gets to work and I start taking photos.
Cell sites are usually fenced in areas in the middle of nowhere.
Sometimes the terrain can be challenging.
I like this photos showing just how tall and how small we are compared to the the towers.
The reason we’re hauling generators is because of the hurricane that swept through causing damage like these uprooted trees.
Many other boom trucks are out.
We switch sites and they bring the generator to us.
Russell always knows his way around these places.
That danger sign with a lightening bolt is no joke.
Now this car will rival any of those big trucks or duallies… on saving gas that is.
Yeah yeah – I said take please take a pic and make it look like I’m working. Look how I’m pointing the screwdriver at the door. Look at those heavy duty bought-in-bulk-from-Costco Nitrile gloves I’m wearing. What do you think I am? Some kind of engineer?
Big wires. Small diagrams. Too many phases for me.
After staying up and working for 24 hours straight, Russell finally lets me drive.
We make a pitstop at where else, a fine dining establishment…
… equipped with neon signs and a pool table…
… and visit with friends, Ben and Steve.
Who knew I would be mobilizing with a crew to help install generators for cell sites in hurricane conditions? The day may not turn out like I expect but it’s always an adventure. Perhaps life is more fulfilling on the days that I don’t plan!
