Before I leave home, I have to grab a copy of the Charlotte Disturber (AKA Charlotte Observer) to go.

Someone is having a bad day at the airport.

When I travel, I like taking my flight approved (meaning no blade) mini Leatherman with me.  It comes in especially handy when trying to crack those uncooperative pistachios.

My first sights of Phoenix, AZ are palm trees…

… and more palm trees.  I’m told this his called Palm Mile at Arizona State University.

I’ve heard of such a thing but this is my first seeing a drive through liquor store.

This is also my first time seeing cactus big as trees!  Note that around here, they don’t have any “normal” trees like we do back home.

Russell shows me the RV is parked next to a donkey and a mule (which I still don’t know the difference).

His truck is kind of big but at least it fits in the driveway.

Every morning he goes to pet the animals.

We exchange gifts and I get a card which is always my favoritest gift he gives me!

We try to check out the eats at the local casino.

Unfortunately the line is too long so we try another spot.

We head over to the Volcano Buffet.

Inside it’s your typical Chinese buffet with a twist.

They have a buffet called the “hot pot” that has raw meats and vegetables.

You bring your ingredients to the table and cook them in a “hot pot” at your table.  It reminds me of a Chinese version of a Melting Pot.

Talk about lame.  Ruth and I get the same fortunes with slightly different ordering.  I think someone is just trying to fill their Chinese fortune writing quota so they just rearrange the words to make it count as another one.

Russell gets a fortune so fitting.

Russell is sporting the Christmas combo.

On the first take, I say Smile! and immediately Richard frowns.  So he tells me to delete that one and take another one which is seen below.  This is Richard smiling with Ruth : )

I get a warm welcome to my first time in Phoenix but I’ve got to admit, I sure do miss the River.  I also wish it was My Own Private Idaho.

One Response to “Welcome to Phoenix–but I sure do miss the River!”
